THEORY BASE
The CEPO Leadership Session curriculum is based on the Leader Development Process described in Beyond Bravery, the Courage to Lead, (David G. Jones, Ph.D., 1989) The process goes through 4 interrelated stages:
|
Stage 1 Wisdom:
|
Knowing who we are, our resources, what we bring to the table, our vision, our opportunities and the context in which we act.
|
|
Stage 2 Compassion:
|
Working with others in a world where leadership based on "position" is dying; (i.e. "a world with no more followers"); new ways of building relationships and networks; communication and presentation skills; bonding in productive ways.
|
|
Stage 3 Faith:
|
Knowing our big picture: what our individual life and work is all about and our relationship to it; our mission; our values and guiding principles upon which our decisions and actions are based; how our personal values and professional values are aligned.
|
Stage 4 Courage: |
The ability to take action based on the wisdom of who we are, what we bring to the table and our visions, moving ahead in concert with others in the relationships and networks we have built; acting with a clear understanding of our core motivations (our missions and values); setting priorities, action planning and measuring progress.

STAGE CONNECTORS
There are 2 connectors between the stages that enables us to move from wisdom to compassion; compassion to faith, faith to courage:
The first connector is Humor. Humor is the ability to laugh at ourselves, to allow learning and growth to take place by the acceptance that we are not perfect, to experience the true passion of living and the joys of being of worthy to the world.
The second connector is Personal Power. Personal Power is defined as the four tracks of:
-
Maturity (Based on Erik Ericson's "4 stages of adult maturity";
-
Learning (Adapted from Alvin Tottler's "Survival Kit" described in "Future Shock";
-
Time Consciousness (Based on David Jones' research on time and how our consciousness to
time relates to our power to act); and
-
Self Esteem (Based on Harris Clemes' work and research on the four modes necessary to be in balance for a person's self esteem to be high).
The connectors are interwoven throughout the process of the three years in a variety of ways.
SESSION CHOICES
Based on sound adult education principles, CEPO gives participants choices for their study based on their present level of learning , their interests and the needs of their organization. For example: In each week-long conference, participants will select six courses of study from 36 to 42 choices. Refer to the Curriculum link in the Conference Section of the website for a current list of courses related to the session for which you have interest.
